What is World Breastfeeding Week?

World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year from 1–7 August to raise awareness of the importance of breastfeeding and to support parents on their feeding journey. Coordinated by the World Alliance for Breastfeeding Action (WABA) and supported by organisations around the world, the week encourages communities, workplaces, healthcare providers and families to help create environments where breastfeeding can thrive.

Breastfeeding offers many benefits for both babies and mothers. It provides ideal nutrition for growing babies, supports healthy development, and can strengthen the bond between parent and child. At the same time, every family's feeding journey is unique, and every parent deserves support, encouragement and access to reliable information—without judgement.
